"Teflon Don"

I have been a follower of Donald Trump for quite some time now.  Not at full blown supporter, but a cheerleader none the less.  I like both Trump and Cruz, but lean more in Trumps direction when it comes to putting our foot down.  When Trump entered the presidential race back in the summer, I was saying the same things all the political pundits were saying, “His mouth will get him in trouble, and he won’t go very far.”  Although deep down, there was a small part of me that hoped I was wrong.  In the past several months, I have saw and took notice to things that many on TV, and in the spotlight, apparently have not.  For instance, when Donald Trump said he would send every single illegal immigrant back home, I thought this would hurt him slightly.  It did not.  When he made disparaging remarks about Carly Fiorina’s face, I thought this would hurt him.  It did not.  When his past contributions to the Democratic Party were brought to light, I thought this may hurt him.  It did not.  Now, more recently, his remarks on banning all Muslims from entering the country until we/congress can figure out what is going on.  I had a hard time thinking that these comments would hurt him, considering his rise in polls after all the other “controversial” comments he had made.  It was after this comment I said, “He will not be hurt in the polls, his numbers will go up.” I was right.  Please understand that just because I thought his comments may hurt him, didn't mean I didn’t agree with him.  It seems no matter what “The Donald” says, his polls numbers rise!

This election cycle is one that my generation has never before seen.  In years past, a candidate for President of the United States must show compassion, lay out plans, watch what he says, and most of all, you must be politically correct.  When Trump started running for President, he appeared to be none of these things, hence the political pundits and my beliefs that he just wouldn't make it.  Donald Trump shows compassion, but he shows it through anger, which is the turn off key for many people.  With that being said, it is also the turn on key for many more. (Including myself)  We as Americans are upset in the direction our country is headed, upset with the handling of ISIS and government cover-ups, and flat out angry at the current administration.  When Donald Trump shows his anger about the same things, we connect.  He has tapped into our heart strings and pulled us into everything he has to say.  As far as laying out plans, he hasn't really done much of that, besides saying that he will destroy ISIS and build a wall along the southern border.  He still hasn't stated just how he will do it.  And as far as watching his mouth and being politically correct, well we all know he doesn't do that, and that above all, I’m good with!  We seem to just take his word for it that he will do these things.  After all, when we see the name “Trump” on something, what words come to mind? Quality, excellence, prestige, and the best just to name a few.  His slogan is “Make America Great Again.”  If you look at his life and how he has made is fortune, he takes old buildings, properties, etc.… and makes them bigger and better.  He has a reputation for making things that was once great, great again. However, at some point he will have to start laying out specific plans.  I would say not later than the summer of 2016.

My question now is, when will the republican establishment just sit down and let Trump run?  When will they stop all the bickering and realize that they have a solid candidate that can win an election, and put them back in the white house?  They are so used to controlling the candidates with money, and therefore making all the decisions for them, but they can’t do this with Trump.  They can’t take the back seat and let someone else to the driving.  It’s like when we were teenagers and yelling “shotgun” when running to the car to solidify that we can get the front seat.  Guess what?  Trump has yelled “shotgun”, he is in the front seat and he even doing all the driving.  He can’t be told what to do, where to turn, where to go, or even what to say.  He’s driving that car and he’s driving it fast with a full tank of gas.  The establishment is worried, but WHY???  Do they not trust the very people that put them into office?  I know the establishment wanted Jeb Bush to be the nominee.  What a perfect puppet for them, and a fat pocket book to boot, but ol’ Jeb hasn't fared so well in the polls and is distantly connected to the American people.  Never in a million years did they expect see the name Trump going on the primary ballets in Iowa, New Hampshire, or South Carolina, and actually having a chance of leaving the table with a royal flush in hand.

I used to listen to some of the greatest pundits, such as Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer, and George Will.  Now, I realize they too are apparently disconnected with the American people, or have some personal issue with Donald Trump.  Either way, they are living in denial.  All they can do is go on national television and scream like school kids who got beat up by the bigger kid.  All the while Trump walks away with his head held high and favorability rising.

As I stated earlier, we are living in a time in which none of us have ever seen.  Can we predict the outcome of the election?  No.  Can we predict how American voters will feel when they step inside the voting booth? Not really.  But we all know that before we vote, we ask ourselves questions.  Do we feel safe?  Does this candidate make us feel safer?  Do we feel they will take care of ISIS, grow the economy, and create jobs?  As Ronald Reagan said in 1980, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?”  This is why exit polling tells the most truth.  So sit back, watch debates, and for heaven sakes inform yourselves.  Don't vote for Hillary because she’s a woman.  Don't vote for Bernie Sanders because he’s someone’s grandpa, and don't vote for anyone that you are not informed about.  Teach yourselves, believe it or not, it’s actually pretty fun.
