He Said, She Said

So, last night was the second Republican Presidential Debate, and I must say, I was a tad disappointed.  I truly wish there were more talk about what needs to happen, who is going to fix what, and how.  Instead, we were smacked in the face with a stage of wolves all going after one another.  I understand you need to clear the way and get your name out there, but for crying out loud, let’s hear about the real issues!  There are plenty of them.  I don’t even recall hearing Bernie Sanders mentioned and what his policies will do to our great country.  He just said this week that he wanted to add $18,000,000,000,000 to government spending.  I added the zeros instead of spelling it out, maybe that will help it to sink in… They could have said something about that, but nope!  I did hear Hilary Clinton mentioned a few times, but only about her tenure as SOS and how she attended a Trump family wedding.  All the failed policies of Obama, and all they can do it talk about how bad George W. Bush was, and what a disappoint Justice John Roberts is, while at the same time, chewing up each other and spitting them out.  Even though I felt that most of CNN’s questions were geared at starting a republican war on stage, they could have tried more to get back to the real issues at hand.

Look, I like Trump, but as far as I’m concerned, he didn’t win the debate last night.  Maybe second place, but I’m leaning more toward third.  I feel as through a few others came out stronger than him, ready to tackle the issues and did.  I like Trumps un-apologetic’s and speaking from the hip.  (Although he should man up and apologize for a few things he has said)  If anyone on that stage has big enough kahunas to go against other countries and stand up for America, it’s Trump.  I like that he doesn’t take any money for big donors and he doesn’t back down when he’s not politically correct.  I like those things, but last night I heard the same things he has been saying for three months now.  It’s time to start laying out just how he will accomplish these things, and tone down in some ways the people bashing.  Start attacking their policies and plans, not their faces, last names, and weight.

Ben Carson did outstanding!  I have liked Carson for a long time now.  I, like many, came to follow Carson and speak out about him running for office after his National Prayer Breakfast speech in 2013, when he actually criticized Obama to his face.  Carson seems to have a knack for delivering the right line at the right time, while making it humorous as well.  His comment was spot on when asked by Jake Tapper, “What are your thoughts on Trumps medical assessment”, Carson responded, “He’s an OK doctor”, which was an apparent jab back at Trump for his comments on Carson last week.
Carly Fiorina came out swinging as well.  She seemed to be one of the few that actually deviated from the questions to talk about the real issues.  She came out strong and left the stage strong.  Her comments on Planned Parenthood and their practice of selling aborted baby parts brought chills upon my body, and almost tears to her eyes.  You could tell she was ticked, hurt, and meant business.  She also brought knowledge of foreign policy to the stage, which was surprising knowledge coming from an “outsider”.  You could tell Mrs. Florina had done her homework and if I were grading it, she’d receive a 100.

Jeb Bush… or should I say Jeb.  As much as he tries to deflect from that last name, it just isn’t going to happen.  However, I did agree with him when he said, “My brother did do one thing; he made us feel safe”.  That he did!  George W. did make us feel safe and there in no doubt he loved out military.  See, I was talking about Jeb and started talking about his family.  It’s hard to disassociate that last name.

Mike Huckabee did well, along with Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.  All three came out stronger than they did in the last debate.  As for the others, Rand Paul needs to bow out, he’s done, along with John Kasich, and Chris Christie.  I did like some things Christie said, but I just don’t care for the man and some of his policies.

One thing that I think about when watching these debates is, who when on the stage with Hillary, Bernie, or any other democratic candidate, can tear them apart piece by piece?  Trump?  Absolutely.  Carson? Ehh, needs to feed that attack dog and prepare to get forceful.  Fiorina? With no doubt.  Bush?  Oh snap, Jeb?  Probably not.  Just like everyone else, they will attack that last name.  I left the others out for obvious reason...

I think we should all start preparing to watch as Trump, for the first time, starts to lose the #1 spot, while Carson and Fiorina gain a little traction on him.  It’s getting exciting isn’t it?
